How-to of the Week: Calculating & Keeping Track of Your Savings


Crunch those numbers. One of the things that puts a smile on my face is seeing how much my couponing is actually saving my family in the long run.

Subtract the total you paid from the original price. This is the amount you saved. Take this amount and divide it by the original price. Move the decimal place to the right two places and you have your savings percentage.

I keep all of this information stored neatly in an Excel file which you can download here. It's already set up with formulas to automatically calculate savings once you enter the information from your receipt. This works for me but you could easily make changes to better suit your needs.
